After Buccal Lipectomy or Face Fat Removal

The incision for a buccal lipectomy or face fat removal are made on the inside of the cheek.  The sutures are restorable and will not need to be removed.  The area can bruise but is uncommon.  Swelling does occur and will resolve in 7-days.  However, the space that contained the fat will fill with blood and form a blog clot or hemaotoma after face fat removal.  This will give the immediate appearance of no change.  Do not worry it will take three to four months for the benefit of a buccal lipectomy or face fat remove to be noticeable. Placing ICE over the cheeks will help reduce the swelling but not stop the “dead space” left by removing the face fat. Please call with any questions, 352-242-0627.
